“It’s Not About Me”

“It’s Not About Me” A Multidisciplinary Oral History Solo Memoir Performance and Reflection Paper on the Responsibility of Listening

Kayleigh Stack

This paper is a reflection on a Multidisciplinary Oral History Solo Memoir Performance of a personal narrative of a woman—myself—sharing an experience of what it means to be disabled, walking around with an “invisible bruise.” The following paper reflects on that performance, as well as on the importance for oral historians to continue to establish more creative listening practices in order to bring the work beyond the archive. Creative listening practices that cultivate space in order to hear responsibly furthers potential for dialogical engagement.
